Just Earth is a UK charity operating principally in Kenya, East Africa. It partners with local churches and small-holder farmers to bring transformation to communities in rural Africa and beyond. Farmers attend a two-year training programme that combines teaching the best practices in modern farming, together with a Christian discipleship programme.
Each “field school” has a demonstration plot of a couple of acres where the farmers, under the guidance of an expert tutor, experiment with new farming techniques. They take this new knowledge back to their smallholdings with staggering results, with yields rising between 300% and 800%, lifting many of these subsistence farmers out of poverty for the first time.
Our vicar Henry visited the project in February last year and was impressed by this charity’s holistic kingdom approach. The blight of rural poverty in East Africa is being addressed through more than just education, in a truly life transforming programme, where the Lordship of Jesus Christ is completely central to everything they do.
