In this case a Reader in Materials Engineering at the Universityof Portsmouth, this involved research and lecturing. Currently he is a carer for Janet, which restricts his opportunities for storytelling and hill walking.

“I delight in the friendliness and informality of the supportive family life that exists at St John’s.”

Chris Ahern
Chris was born in South Africa while her Dad was on government service over there. She returned, with her parents, to Gosport where she lived and went to school. After training at Gipsy Hill College of Education she returned to Gosport and taught for 29 years at Siskin Junior School. Since retiring she has continued her interest in education by taking part in school assemblies, helping out at St John’s J-Club and being a school governor. Chris became a reader in October 1999 and is also sub warden of Readers for the Fareham Deanery. She is a tutor on the course for the training of new readers. Chris married Mike in 1972.

“I am excited by our efforts to bring young families to know about Jesus and am anxious to find new and exciting ways to further this work.”

Ian Cranstone
Ian was licensed in 1992 and has been a member of St John’s since the age of 18.  He is married with two children, completed a BA in Church and Community Studies in 2004 and is an ICT teacher in a local secondary school.  Ian’s list of interest include watching DVD’s, eating out, fixing computers and playing computer games.

“I have a real heart for the parish of St John’s.”

Jeannette has recently become St John’s link with the local First Wessex “Community Space” initiative in Broadlaw Precinct.  Jeannette has two children and four grandchildren and has interests including piano playing, learning to play the recorder, singing with “Solent Sounds” Ladies Sweet Adeline Chorus, Geology, Star Trek, gardening and meeting friends
and family.

“I have a real passion for the people of this parish.”

Jeremy Hicks
Having grown up in Nottingham, Jeremy moved to Fareham shortly after graduating from university in 1985. A few months later he met Rachel at a Lent study group, and they were married in 1988. Jeremy became a Reader in 1998, serving first in our neighbouring parish of Holy Trinity with St Columba, and since 2004 at St John’s.  Jeremy works as a software engineer in the digital television industry. In his spare time he plays cricket, badminton and table tennis; he also enjoys puzzles and quizzes, and is interested in languages and music. He is the fixture secretary of the local indoor cricket league, the secretary of the Fareham Fairtrade group, and the webmaster of the Hampshire Fairtrade Network. He also runs the church’s cricket team, and is always glad to hear from anyone who would like to play.

“I have a passion to see the good news of Jesus making a real difference, and I’m excited to be part of St John’s as we seek to spread faith, care and justice in our local community, in our town and in the wider world.”
